The first webcam was created to monitor a coffee pot!

In 1991, a camera was installed to capture images of the coffee maker in the House of Trojan horse of the former laboratory of computer science at the University of Cambridge!
The idea was to allow people to see if there were still coffee without having to move from their respective departments and Chambers to the pot!

The image was of 128 × 128 power of the famous coffee maker on grayscale user's desktop. Years later, the "Trojan room coffee pot" has auction on eBay for $5268.55!
