Fancy watching two young pandas playing in China? Explore.org, a website created to inspire people to protect endangered species, has set up a giant panda webcam that allows you to do just that.
The website was created by the philanthropist Charlie Annenberg Weingarten, and features webcams of many different endangered animals. Other animals include jellyfish, whales, puppies, and reef fish. It has proved to be a popular website amongst animal fans.
Yummy! Bamboo! And so much of it! The quest to get giant pandas on webcam when Weingarten visited China back started in 2008. Unfortunately, an earthquake hit the region soon afterwards, delaying any plans. When Weingarten was able to get back in contact with those looking after the pandas in China, they agreed to allow webcams to be installed with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding about the species.
There are only currently 1300 pandas in existence. Fingers crossed that webcams like this one and the one at Edinburgh Zoo raise interest in the species and increase the population!
