More big solar storm in years race to Earth







The greatest solar storm in five years was due to arrive on Earth at the beginning Thursday.

The massive cloud of charged particles could disrupt utility grids, flights, networks by satellite and GPS services, especially in the northern regions.

The sun broke out Tuesday night, and the more noticeable effects should arrive here between 1 pm and 5 pm EST Thursday, according to the Centre of space weather forecasters. The effects may linger on the Friday morning: storm solar webcam
