Do you remember watching sci-fi shows, cartoons or movies that took place in the future where people would call each other with video? It doesn't matter if it was on Back to the Future, Star Trek, or The Jetsons, it was cool and we wanted it. Well that technology is no longer fictional and relegated to movie screens, but a fact. Though webcams have been around for a while, It is only recently that i have really started using them and discovering how useful they are in keeping me connected with friends and family. It's just as well that I've only recently started video calling, because webcams and web chats are only now reaching their potential with bandwidths and speeds ready for the task.

As a new dad – the little guy turns two months old today – I have found myself taking about a million pictures of him, but recently opted for video instead. Webcams to be exact, for showing him off, don't ya know?

Life is grand when even my aging parents are hip enough to have the technology to connect with their newest grandson by way of webcam. It's really the perfect way to show him off, even though we don't live too far from each other.

However, I've got plenty of family who don't live so close to me, and for them using a webcam with our AT&T high speed internet connection has been awesome. Now, all his cousins, aunts, and uncles can see him without actually being here.

Webcams and high-speed internet are actually the perfect technology pairing, and it doesn't just have to be for showing off you new son. I also talk to friends and family across the country, the same as millions of other high-speed internet users around the world.
