Putin's plan election Webcam seen slowing Internet Nation
The Internet, at least the part in the Russia, may significantly slow the day of March 4 presidential election if video cameras live streaming on the ground are installed at each polling station, Ilya Massukh, Deputy Head of the Ministry of communication told Russian business daily Vedomosti.
The idea of questionable to install cameras in places of voting was first communicated by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the telephone television annual with the Russians. Putin has suggested that this be done in response to the allegations that the 4 December Parliament elections have been rigged.
"On average main communication links transmit 70 gigabits per second in Russia, and this project, if you treat it sits on will be clogging up to almost 100 gigabits per second," Vedomosti quoted Mr. said Massukh
The last step of the maintenance work will be between February 15 and March 1, and the cameras will be ready to go March 1 according to the communications department Web site. During this time, critics say that a camera at each polling station may not do much to prevent fraud.
